Manju P. Jois, Ashtanga Yoga guru of Mysore, South India, is the oldest son of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, recognized worldwide as the foremost authority on Ashtanga Yoga. Manju`s practice began at age 7 and he began teaching with his father at age 15. Manju has taught the traditional Ashtanga method for over 50 years. Spanning 25 countries, Manju's world Ashtanga teaching tour is ever expanding. Manju's dedication to his life of teaching has brought the benefits of the ancient tradition of Ashtanga Yoga to many students around the world, as he guides each to "Unite with Yourself."
Yoga Healing - Yoga Chikitsa
The Ashtanga Primary Series is called Yoga Chikitsa, meaning yoga therapy, because of the cleansing and toning effect it has on both body and mind. On a physical level the asanas (poses) of the Primary Series build strength and flexibility in the body, loosening tight muscles and realigning and detoxifying the body and nervous system.
On a mental level, through regular practice focus, willpower, mind-body awareness and confidence are improved as we overcome the mental obstacles to our practice. On a subtle level the Primary series works therapeutically to clear obstacles in the energy channels in the body (known as Nadis).
This clearing of obstacles allows the Prana to flow more freely so the body and mind are therefore allowed to work more effectively.
TEACHER TRAINING - Primary Series
Manju will introduce the components of the Ashtanga Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa/Yoga Healing) as developed by his father, including the asanas (postures), the Nadi Shodhana Pranayamas (breathing) and the Shanti Mantras (Vedic peace chants). Manju will also introduce the traditional Vinyasa Count and teach correct Sanskrit pronunciation of the asanas and Opening and Closing Chants.
How TT will look like?
10:00-11:30 We will start with Mysore Class, in the traditional style, with individual help and adjustment from Manju P. Jois and his assistant Petra.
12:30-15:00 Adjustment Training, Vinyasa Count, Nadi Shodana Pranayama, Vedic Peace Chants, Q&A.
Manju's will explore each asana of the Primary Series in depth and detail and teach his safe adjustment techniques so that Ashtanga Practitioners can confidently adjust and assist their students in each position.
We will practice all the steps, just like a ritual. Asana practice maintains physical health, then you will learn pranayama, and the chanting (internal vibrations).
In Mysore Class you need to remember the asana sequence. If you do not have an existing Mysore style practice but would like to attend Teachers Training, we recommend that you start by attending Mysore style classes a minimum of 3 months before the Teachers Training starts.
No need to want to be a teacher to come for the teacher training. It's for everybody who want to have a fun with Manju and learn from him. He is a great spirit full of wisdom end experience.
